According to old tradition, anyone who doesn't eat goose on St. Martin's Day will go hungry the following year... Surely no one wants to take that risk? We certainly won't at the Fordan Center! 😉
We are extending the feast and welcoming everyone for a whole week to taste our special, flavorful St. Martin's Day menu, which is of course crowned with new wine! 🍷
The Tradition: Saint Martin and the Goose 🕊️
Saint Martin's Day, November 11, is not just a date on the calendar. It is the feast day of Saint Martin, the benevolent bishop, and also the last major autumn holiday of the year. According to legend, Martin humbly hid from his episcopal appointment in a goose pen, but the geese's honking gave him away. This is where the tradition of goose eating comes from. In addition, this day marks the end of the peasant year, the time for financial settlements, when the fresh new wine of the year was tasted for the first time – hence the sayings: "Whoever does not eat goose on St. Martin's Day will go hungry all year round" and "Martin brings the wine."

Our head chef has carefully put together a traditional yet elegant menu, with everything revolving around goose and accompanying delicacies:
Cold starter: Duck liver terrine with flaky bread and sweet cranberry jam
Hot starter: Mouthwatering goose soup with goose neck pasta
Main course: Crispy roast goose leg with classic onion mashed potatoes and sour quince compote
Dessert: Creamy goose leg slice for the perfect finish
Accompaniment: A glass of fresh, fragrant new wine
